Bjarni graduated from Illinois University with a degree in urban planning. He worked for 25 years as an urban planner at the Reykjavík municipal office and has graduated as a teacher and guide.

Bjarni has been interested in watercolour painting for several years and during the past 10 to 15 years he has attended several adult courses in this medium at the Kópavogur Art School.
