The art of Elínborg Jóhannesdóttir is characterised by a desire to experiment and be inquistive, discovering novel techniques and motives. Watercolour has been a favourite from the start and particularly with the Icelandic landscape as a subject. She later developed an interest in drawing as well as figurative and abstract painting both in oils, acrylics and mixed media.

Elínborg (b.1954) was born and raised in Reykjavík. She completed her doctorate in biochemistry in Vienna in 1984 and since then has lived in that city, working on research into cancer treatment. Her interest in art was kindled from an early age but as an adult she attended classes at Kunstfabrik, Vienna from 2018 – 2022 with emphasis on figurative and abstract painting.

Over the years she has attended workshops led by internationally renowned artists such as Joseph Zbukvic, Chien Chung Wei, Bernard Vogel and Matthias Kroth.

Elínborg has taken part in many group exhibitions in Austria and held solo exhibitions in Iceland and Vienna. She is a member of the Nordic Watercolour Society.
