A TALK ON THE WATERCOLOURS
OF ÁSGRÍMUR JÓNSSON

20th March 2025

Following the usual AGM business it is necessary to have an interesting talk to encourage members to attend! This year it was the turn of our president, Derek Mundell, to give a talk based on his B.A. dissertation in art history. He presented his theory on how the artist Ásgrímur Jónsson (1867 -1958) taught himself to paint magnificent watercolour landscapes at the beginning of the 20th century. He gave up on formal art tuition in Copenhagen and had just a few books to help him. But which books and who inspired him most?
