NINNÝ –
JÓNINA MAGNÚSDÓTTIR

Jónina Magnúsdóttir, known as Ninný, enjoys the diversity of visual media and likes to experiment with them. Watercolour fascinated her from an early stage; how paint, water and paper interact so that the outcome is often unexpected and exciting. She considers that the most important aspects in her watercolour paintings are the light, flow and contrast which she can achieve with the medium. In recent years she has also worked with watercolour on Yupo paper which has proved to be completely different from traditional watercolour paper. She has been able to experiment with new techniques in ways which are not possible on normal paper. An advantage of watercolour is that it is easy to take along while on trips. She works with oils in the studio and with watercolour at home, in her summerhouse and on trips. This suits her well since it means that she can change media and her surroundings at the same time.
