SVAVA SIGRÍÐUR
GESTSDÓTTIR

Svava has created with watercolour for more than 30 years. She was one of the founding members of the Árnessýsla Art Society and was an active member while she lived in that area. She attended classes at the Reykjavík Art School under the direction of Ragnar Kjartansson and then moved to Copenhagen to attend the Bergenholtz Dekorations Fagskole where emphasis was placed on colour theory and composition.
She gets her inspiration from nature and enjoys marvellous views to the horizon where Snæfell glacier can be viewed in all its glory when the visibility permits. During her walks, the rocks and lava formations speak to her through the many faces which peek out at her from under the covering of moss and lichens.
Svava has held 12 solo exhibitions and taken part in numerous group exhibitions. She has paintings in the National Art Gallery and the LÁ Art Museum.
